Next Up, Germany! š©šŖ
The flight from Rome to Germany was a fairly quick oneāa little over an hour, so no time for a quick sleep. Once on the ground, we caught the train from the airport to the hotel. It was an adventure as we got a little lost, but finding our way made it worthwhile. Once checked in, it was time to search for some food!
We found an Irish Pub āļø, which was basement level as we took stairs downward to reach the establishment. What caught my eye were the writings on the wall while walking down the staircase, with my favorite being āTo live is the rarest thing in the world. Most exist, that is all.ā Once inside, it truly felt like its name, āScholars Lounge.ā There was a section with plush chairs and books on shelves, high top tables and chairs, private booths, and of course seating at the bar. I ordered one of their specials, the āCrunchy Chicken Burger with Fries.ā Yes, I probably should have ventured out a little more, but let me tell you, that burger and fries did not taste like a burger and fries from home. I canāt even describe the tasteāit honestly tasted different, especially the fries (likely due to freshly picked ingredients). I did opt for a little drinky drink but somehow misunderstood the waiter and received almost what looked like a double shot instead of an actual drink š. My dad had a Guinness, and although Iām not a fan, Iāve tasted it at home. However, the Guinness seemed quite unique in Germany as it had a smoother taste, less tart and bitter than what I had in the past.
As we strolled through the streets of Munich, we came across the famous beer hall, HofbrƤuhaus, founded in 1589. It was fascinating to see so many buildings that have been around for decades in such a remarkable state. It almost makes you wonder if theyāve truly been around as long as they say? One word comes to mind for the reason of its state: pride. In everything that weāve seen and visited, there was so much pride and effort put in by the community that it poured out into the streets, which were always pristine. On our journey, we came across a market that seemed to never end. Even on a weekday, it was packed with people! From fresh honey to fruits and vegetables, smoothies to spices and olives, they had it all! I felt like I had gotten healthier within a matter of minutes š.
While the sights caught our eyes, there were melodies that caught our ears. It wasnāt just any ordinary music; it was street art. The first was the accordion, but get thisāit was a headless person (literally but not actually). Whatttt? Mind-boggling but so fascinating! There was also a gentleman performing on a pianoā¦not an electric piano, but a mini grand piano. He literally had his own concert on a street in Munich. It was amazing to see and hear!
Other than the many fountains that are showcased for its beauty or available to fill your bottles with fresh drinking water, my all-time favorite part of Germany, which may be odd, were the sunflowers on the side of the road. I saw them on our way to the hotel and told myself I had to walk there to take photos in this field of sunflowers. It was a bit of a distance but so worth it! At first sight, I noticed that they were facing away from the sun (does anyone know why?) I took a couple of photos while trying my best to stay calm as there were a ton of bees enjoying the nectar from these beauties (I was recently stung by a bee.) My folks later pointed out that it was a field where individuals can pick their own flowers for 1⬠or less. How cool is that?
Life Lesson from Germany: Simple Living
Life doesnāt have to be as complicated as we make it out to be. There seemed to be an ease, comfort, and conservation. Whether itās driving a car, using public transportation, riding a bicycle/scooter, or simply walking, life can be enjoyed by simplyā¦living.
