A Whisper from Nature

Inspiration is everywhere—in the big and the little things. Oftentimes, life keeps us so busy and bogged down that we don’t take a moment to stop and smell the roses (literally and figuratively). But when we do take that moment, we start to appreciate what’s around us. I was able to do that today, which led to this reflective piece (so yes, the final stop on the European tour will have to wait just a little longer).

Lately, my mom has become a backyard farming connoisseur. This year, she’s been planting and reaping a pretty impressive harvest. She and my dad tossed out some watermelon seeds, not expecting much—but to their surprise, a few caught on! Two baby watermelons appeared on the vine (wish I had snapped a photo), but sadly, they didn’t make it. However, just this past Sunday, while I was admiring the ladybugs around the vines, what did I spot? Hidden out of view… a watermelon! I couldn’t believe its cuteness (see photo below if you don’t believe me!).

When I went out today to check on it, the ladybugs were still around. It brought back a memory from my freshman year of college—my dorm room was infested with ladybugs. They’d crawl in right by my bed, and there was nothing that could be done since they were protected by the state. I don’t remember how long it lasted, but I do remember it being a bother. Later, I learned that ladybugs are seen as symbols of good luck. And after I moved back home, I rarely saw them… but every now and then, they show up. And when they do, I take it as a little sign—a gentle reminder that everything is going to be okay. What I once saw as a bother, I now see as a blessing.

So whether you’re riding the highs of life or feeling the lows, here’s your reminder to pause, take a moment to smell the roses, and remember: it’s going to be okay. 🐞
